Elissa Wool, a student from Green High School in Uniontown, Ohio, impressed the scholarship panel with her insightful and impactful approach to addressing distracted driving case accidents, which continue to be a critical safety issue in Ohio and across the nation.
Elissa’s winning submission featured a compelling billboard design that vividly illustrates the dangers of texting while driving. The design is striking, with a bold black background highlighted by yellow and red hazard stripes along the edges, evoking a sense of urgency and caution. Central to the billboard is the stark warning: “Sending that ‘LOL’ might make you DOA. Don’t drive distracted.” This direct and compelling message is designed to resonate with drivers, urging them to reconsider using their phones while behind the wheel.
Along with the billboard, Elissa proposed a community outreach plan involving local schools and social media campaigns, demonstrating her commitment to a comprehensive awareness strategy.
Elissa is more than a safe driving advocate. She is an engaged and ambitious student who plans to study Environmental Science and French at The Ohio State University. Elissa aims to pursue a career as an environmental specialist, reflecting her commitment to service and community involvement.
In addition to holding leadership roles in the French and GSA Clubs and her noteworthy volunteer work with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and the Green Schools Foundation, she has earned several recognitions, including the Bulldog Character Award and the Ohio Seal of Biliteracy in French.

The Robert Redick Memorial Scholarship awards $5,000 for tuition and educational expenses, acknowledging Elissa’s hard work and dedication. This scholarship honors the memory of Robert Redick and KNR’s ongoing commitment to combatting distracted driving.
